Fifth Peethadhish
P. P. Swami Shri Vishwanath Maharaj
(1649 – 1710)
Born in Varanasi, Shri Vishwanath Maharaj was orphaned at the tender age of three. Legend says that Lord Dattatreya himself cared for him, nurturing him and preparing him for his divine journey.
"Datt Raj Swami, the protector of the helpless, took human form to raise the child, Nurturing him with divine care, ensuring his spiritual path unfolds." — Shri Devnath Leelatarang (Tarang 5)
Lord Dattatreya also performed his sacred thread ceremony and later entrusted him to Shri Krishnanandnath Maharaj. Over the years, he traveled across India, spreading the banner of dharma and devotion. His significant contributions to bhajan, penance, pilgrimages, and spiritual discourses greatly enriched the Nath tradition.
In 1710, at the age of 61, he took samadhi in Kashi, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering dedication to dharma.
“Blessed by Shri Krishnanandnath, he knew no separation, His Guru and disciple became one, and his name echoed through the three worlds.”
