Sixth Peethadhish
P. P. Swami Shri Murharanath Maharaj
(1655 – 1720)
Shri Murharanath Maharaj had his first divine encounter with his Guru, Shri Vishwanath Maharaj, at Srirangapatna. It was there that he experienced a life-altering vision—he beheld Shiva Panchayatan (Lord Shiva, Parvati, Ganesha, Shakti, and Nandi), which set him on his destined path. "When the Guru accepts you, surrender becomes absolute, The mind finds clarity, and the divine vision unfolds all around."
His Guru’s teachings, as recorded in the Shri Devnath Leelalahari, emphasize the path of spiritual discipline, detachment, and unwavering faith: "Without proper conduct and reflection, the mind remains restless, Without surrender of the mind and intellect, true spirituality cannot be attained. Let go of the illusion of worldly and spiritual separation, Hold no desires, remember the Guru within, and chant the divine name."
With his Guru’s blessings, he traveled extensively, spreading wisdom and uplifting humanity. In 1720, at the age of 65, he took samadhi in Chandrapur, Maharashtra. Remarkably, at that very moment, his presence was also felt in Kashi, where a simultaneous samadhi ceremony took place, leaving behind an enduring spiritual legacy.
