Fifteenth Peethadhish
P. P. Swami Shri Marotinath Maharaj
(1882 - 1930)
Born in Kholapur, Amravati district, into the Khalkunikar family of the Kaudinya lineage, Shri Marotinath Maharaj’s family later moved to Umred.
He first encountered his Guru, Shri Bhalachandranath Maharaj, at the Chaitanyeshwar Mahadev Temple in Umred. At that moment, his Guru told him, “A treasure of divine wisdom awaits you at our Math in Anjanigram, where people have been longing for it for generations.”
Following this divine calling, he joined the Math, received spiritual initiation, and devoted himself entirely to serving his Guru.
After his Guru’s departure in 1911, he was appointed as Peethadheesh. During his tenure, he worked tirelessly to strengthen the Math’s internal structure, manage its lands, and oversee temple renovations and expansion.
Shri Marotinath Maharaj lived a life of simplicity, discipline, love, and selfless service. His heart overflowed with compassion, and he was deeply committed to the spiritual upliftment of all.
Through his devotional discourses, bhajans, and kirtans, he preached unwavering faith in the Guru’s words, urging devotees to surrender their ego and realize their true self: "Doubt is the great deluge; Through faith and devotion, one attains divine union. Ego dances uncontrollably, Leading to the loss of self-realization." (Shri Dev Leela, 33.34)
In 1930, on Adhik Ashadha Krishna Dwadashi, Swami Shri Marotinath Maharaj entered samadhi.
